The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.
GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones.
Beyond admissions into institutions like IIsc, IITs, NITs, various research departments and labs like DRDO, ISRO and CSIR etc. give preferences to studens with Good GATE scores. More than 300 institutes validate GATE scores for admission to PG Programmes. GATE score is valid foe CEED programmes at IIT Kanpur & IISc Bangalore. As a matter of practice, industries have also started giving preference to good GATE scorers for employment purposes. Some government organisations prescribes GATE qualification as a requirement to apply for the post of a Scientist/Engineer.

stands for Indian Institute for Indian Engineering Services. It is a combined competitive examination conducted by Union Public Commission (UPSC) every year at various centers across India. Through IES recruitment to Group-A and Group-B services are made under the following categories of engineering
CATEGORY I- CIVIL ENGINEERING
CATEGORY II- MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
CATEGORY III- ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
CATEGORY IV- ELECTRONICS & TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
